The Anglo-American Charity Limited was founded in November 2003 to assist trans-Atlantic philanthropy. Over the ensuing years the Charity and its US parent, the Anglo-American Charitable Foundation have facilitated over $40 million in gifts to over 500 US and UK charities.
Meet our Board of Trustees
Stuart Horwich
Director
Stuart Horwich is a U.S. tax attorney based in London. He has law degrees from the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Cambridge. He co-founded the Charity.
Stuart and his family have long supported Plan International and have been involved in a number of their projects around the world. He has run the London marathon for Plan as well as The Children’s Society.
Alex Eichhorn
Director
Alex serves as Managing Partner of Tanager Wealth Management, having worked in wealth management for over 20 years. He was one of the three walkers who completed the Bryson Line Walk in 2018.
Alex has been active with Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) where he was treated as a child and regularly takes part in charity runs and walks.
Lenore A. England
Fundraising and Liaison Officer
Lenore England was born and raised in Washington, DC. Her parents were actively involved in and thrived with their endeavors for numerous charitable organizations. Their work, as well as the work of previous generations of other family members, formed the framework for her philanthropic work today.
After a 25-year career as a librarian and library associate, Lenore now applies “distilled” innovation to her philanthropy as of 2017. She supports ten nonprofit organizations in the Washington, DC area and London with ideas, initiatives, projects, from fundraising to newly established programs to innovation hubs, both on an individual and collaborative basis.
Lenore is the Treasurer of the Patricia G. and Jonathan S. England Foundation and President of the Lenore A. England Foundation, Inc. She is the Fundraising and Liaison Officer for The Anglo-American Charity. Her memberships include: Member of the Le Cure/Royal Marsden Cancer Charity Scientific Research Committee; Vice President of DEBRA UK; member of the James Madison Council at the Library of Congress; member of Royal Marsden Cancer Charity’s William Marsden Circle; community member of Greenwood Place London; Legacy Partner member of PathNorth; and board member of the Charles E. Smith Life Communities (CESLC), Sibley Hospital Foundation, Suburban Hospital Foundation, and Sulam, Inc. Lenore was the founder of the American Library Association Philanthropic Advisory Group and awarded the American Library Association/Association of Library Collections & Technical Services Presidential Citation for an “extraordinary vision to build a culture of philanthropy”. She received the Hymen Goldman Humanitarian Award in May 2023 from CESLC for “leadership in the community and dedication to their mission, vision, and values”, following in the footsteps of her father, who also won this award.
Josh Watts
Director
Josh is an Investment Director at Permira Credit where he works in the Private Credit team. He qualified as a chartered accountant at KPMG in 2013 and holds an MA in Philosophy and Economics from the University of Edinburgh.
Josh has supported many charitable causes particularly around children’s health, social mobility and victim support. He lives with his wife and two children in Belsize Park.
Sarah Gawne-Cain
Financial Controller
Sarah is responsible for the day to day running of the Anglo-American Charity Ltd including processing gifts and account preparation. She has been working for AACL for 12 years.
Sarah is a chartered accountant having qualified with Price Waterhouse in the 1990’s.
Sarah is also a yoga teacher and has held yoga workshops in her studio to raise money for charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, Alzheimer Society, Anthony Nolan and National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society.
